Who Won Gold in Boxing Olympics 2021

History

The first boxing competition in the modern Olympics took place in 1904, in St. Louis, United States. It was not until the 1920 Summer Olympics, held in Antwerp, Belgium, that boxing became a medal event. The number of weight classes has varied over the years, from seven at those first Games to ten from 1952 until the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Since then, it has alternated between nine and ten weight classes. Women’s boxing was added as an Olympic sport in 2012 and returned for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

Format

The boxing tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo will feature male boxers in thirteen different weight classes. Among the weight classes there are both Olympic and non-Olympic categories.
