The month of May is already here and that means that the boxing calendar is about to heat up. There are several big fights scheduled for this month, including some world title bouts. Here are some of the most notable match-ups on the May boxing schedule.
May Boxing Schedule
On May 4, Canelo Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KOs) will attempt to unify three of the four major world titles in the middleweight division when he takes on Danny Jacobs (35-2, 29 KOs) in Las Vegas. Alvarez is the current WBA and WBC champion, while Jacobs holds the IBF title. The winner of this bout will also become the lineal middleweight champion, as well as the mandatory challenger for WBO titleholder Demetrius Andrade.
Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman
Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBA (Super) welterweight title against Keith Thurman in the main event of a FOX Sports PPV on July 20, 2019 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan
On April 20, 2019, it was announced that WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford (34-0, 25 KOs) would defend his title against Amir Khan (33-4, 20 KOs) on April 20 in Madison Square Garden. The fight will be shown live on ESPN pay-per-view.
This will be Crawford’s third consecutive fight in New York City, and the second time he will headline a boxing card at Madison Square Garden. He previously fought at MSG in December 2018, when he knocked out Jose Benavidez Jr. in the 12th round to retain his title.
For Khan, this will be his first fight in the United States since he defeated Chris Algieri in May 2015. He has fought twice since then, losing to Canelo Alvarez by sixth-round TKO in 2016, and defeating Samuel Vargas by knockout in 2018.
May is a big month for boxing, with several notable fights on the schedule. The main event of the month is the highly anticipated rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, which will take place on May 5th.
